Houghton is known as the Gateway to the Keweenaw peninsula, some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. I first came to Houghton many years ago with my dad on our way to Isle Royal National Park for a backpacking trip. I liked it well enough, but had no idea if I'd ever come back. After all it was a LONG way from home, a 10 hour drive from Detroit! But some years later, I ended up back in Houghton to attend college at Michigan Tech. I fell in love with the place, and have found it very hard to stay away since...
