Some photos from my "scouting trip" to New Zealand in February '08 to try to find work in Christchurch...
First glimpses of En Zed.
More great views of the Southern Alps from the airplane window.
Christchurch. It has a Trolly!
Christchurch. It also has a Cathedral and markets in the square.
The Avon river runs right through the city. Christchurchians, being the smart people that they are, have designed a network of parks all along the waterfront.
A signpost indicates that this waterwheel doesn't actually do anything at all. It's not even a replica of the original, which was used, as part of a mill.
An archway over the Bridge of Remembrance, a war memorial.
The Avon continues on out of town and into a very large park West of the city. Lots of people seem to enjoy using the river as a means of recreation.
A very large tree in the park.
Christchurch's Arts Center.
There's some sweet looking real estate in Christchurch...
Lyttleton is a suburb of Christchurch, and hosts the city's port.
Shipping out lumber.
Lyttleton can sure throw a good street party too!
Sheeps! It was quite the scenic bus ride from the plains of Christchurch up into the mountains of Arthur's Pass.
Arthur's Pass. I had some pretty terrible weather up here. It rained for almost two days straight!
Arthur's Pass was originally set up as a miners camp for those working on the Eastern end of the rail tunnel.
Arthur's Pass village from a distance.
Of the 6 main buildings in town, two were bars! I hung out at the Wobbly Kea, just across the street from my hostel.
The view upstream from Arthur's Pass.
Devil's Punchbowl Falls.
A former miner's cabin, now used as a holiday home. Not a bad location, eh?
