Here are some photos from my first sojourn to "the Port Hills" of Christchurch. This is a great location, just a 15 minute city bus ride away, for hiking, mountain biking, quiet time, whatever. It is SO accessible to Christchurch; I think I'll be seeing a lot of this little collection of "hills" over the next few months/years.
They don't look so big from down here...
...but I'm not even half-way up to Mt Cavendish, and look how small Christchurch looks!
The view over the ridge towards Lyttleton Harbour is quite spectacular.
There's a gondola ride up to the top of Mt Cavendish that looks much more laid back than the hike I just did!
Lyttleton Harbour from the Gondola Restaurant observation deck.
What the...?! A hedgehog? I didn't know they had those here?
Castle Rock is a favourite hunk of granite for the local climbing community... and look at the view!
The view from (nearly) the top of Castle Rock. As it turns out, there's an "easy" way up that doesn't involve climbing up perfectly sheer walls.
