La Fortuna, Arenal volcano, the surrounding rainforest, and the associated hot springs... all in one day!

Some peds in a small town our bus stopped in on the way up to La Fortuna.

Scary graffiti on a bridge in the middle of nowhere.

A prickly tree seed. Its about the size of my fist.

Tree Cutter ants.  These were pretty cool. They apparently elect a "taste-tester" ant

who tests tree leaves to see if they are poisoness before the rest of the clan goes to town

harvesting the leaves and bringing them back to the lair. They don't actually eat the leaves

though... they wait for them to decompose so they can eat the particular fungus that

grows on them! One advantage to being the taste-tester... no walking. They hitch a free

ride back and forth on the leaves that others carry (see ant on leaf near center of photo).

Evening in La Fortuna.

That's one amazing drink!!!

That's me enjoying the swim up bar at the hot-springs... Yes life is tough, but

someone's gotta do it! (photo by Kate Roff)
