Day 4: We took the scenic rout back to Dublin. I'm glad we did! We stopped off at a place called the Kylemore Abbey, now a boarding school. It looked an awful lot more like a castle than a school to me! We also took a short detour to Clonmacnoise, an old missionary/monastery that was built sometime around the year 520! That place was amazing. It was so old... it had been raided by Vikings, Normans, fellow Irishmen, and Britons a total of about 15 times. And the original building is still standing! I guess they just don't build 'em like they used to, eh?

A random castle in a farmer's field
Two high crosses of Clonmacnoise. These were probably about 10 feet tall.
An ancient grave marker.
Family members of those who died defending the monastery have continued to be buried here into recent years.
The main building at Clonmacnoise. The monastary was burned by the British in the 1800s and has been uninhabited since.
This building was refurbished and still holds a regular mass
The oldest building at Clonmacnoise. It was built sometime around the year 520 !
